Our Story
DekLights is a deck lighting line for professional deck builders, created and manufactured by a professional deck builder of 35+ years, and know how important dependable fixtures and lighted post caps are, and the absolute necessity of them having replaceable LED bulbs, for both the builder and homeowner’s ability to match the color white light they desire, and the ability to change out dimming or burnt out bulbs in the future.
Amazingly, top lighting brands, as well as every inexpensive imported lights and caps fail to offer this, as well as top quality materials for the actual construction of the fixtures and caps.
This is the longer story…
I have been a custom deck builder since the early 1990s. I was a builder that specialized in not only deck building, but the installation of lighting, both for accent and safety, suggesting lighting on staircases especially.
Fast forward a bit, my crew and I were dealing with callbacks on lighting that simply didn't hold up to the elements. Many (most) yellowed, due to cheap polycarbonate lenses, and others simply fell apart due to cheaply made plastics mated to thin metal mounting rings.
Another battle right at the initial point of installation of these other brands, was the color tone of the light beam itself. It was inconsistent, even from the same manufacturer, and either had a light that was too bright, almost blue (like some of the annoying headlights you see on the road at night), or too yellow or amber. Clients wanted and expected more from their lighting, so I created DekLights to meet their (and my own) needs.
My DekLights offer several years of trial in the field, including multiple product deficiencies and subsequently, improvements. Sometimes, a better manufacturing process simply arose, making a more cost effective product to sell, without sacrificing quality. Quality actually improved greatly with each new generation.
But one thing that has remained since day one are the replaceable LED bulbs, which can be in a variety of white beams. From warm white, similar to most incandescent bulbs of the past, right up to the brightest white available, without crossing over into the blue and purple hues that make the light annoying to most. This particular feature of our DekLights makes us stand out from most other companies you see selling similar fixtures for two to three times the price. Your stuck with their fixture, even when a bulb burns out or is defective. The hunt becomes finding the same fixture to replace the bad one, or two, or three, etc. With any and all of my DekLight products, the fixture remains, with a lifetime warranty, and only the bulb needs to be replaced.
Today, I not only manufacture my original DekLight up-light fixture, but lighted post caps. A perfect match for today's popular vinyl and aluminum railing brands. They have a unique glass edge style that radiates light on all four sides, similar to fiber optic technology. All done with 100% plexiglass (acrylic), no cheap vacuum formed polycarbonates or similar molded plastics.
We also custom make caps for your popular Trex and Timbertech post sleeves and railing packages. We use genuine parts from these companies, and retro-fit DekLight Glass Edge style lighting into them, creating a factory OEM look, as opposed to an obvious add-on from products purchased from big box stores, or most of the "universal fit" products found in the market.
From our office, I not only create the content for our sales pages, but also have a full service tech bench, which allows me to work on new products when inspiration strikes. I simply spin in my chair, and get to work on ideas that I believe deck builders and homeowners alike will appreciate and be interested in purchasing.
Whether it is for deck builders who want a reliable product to install or homeowners looking for the same, or short run custom products for their projects, DekLights is certainly the best source, and not something you will find with other manufacturers.
Thank you for your interest in my company, and we look forward to helping you with your deck lighting needs now or in the future!
